BJP-led NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu filed her nomination on Friday. During this, many veteran leaders of BJP including PM Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah were present. In Draupadi Murmu’s nomination, PM Modi became the proposer while Rajnath Singh became the seconder. At the same time, NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu appealed to TMC chief and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee for support.
Murmu spoke to Mamata Banerjee over phone and appealed to her to support her candidature. Apart from this, Draupadi Murmu also spoke to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and NCP chief Sharad Pawar over phone and appealed to them to support her candidature in the presidential election. According to PTI, all three leaders including Mamata Banerjee have extended their best wishes to Murmu. However, Mamta Banerjee did not say anything on supporting him in the presidential election. Let us inform that Yashwant Sinha, who resigned from TMC, has been declared by the opposition as a candidate for the post of President.
Draupadi Murmu had reached Delhi from Odisha on Thursday and met PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, besides BJP National President JP Nadda. Besides BJP leaders during Murmu’s nomination, YSR Congress’s Vijayasai Reddy, two ministers from the Biju Janata Dal government in Odisha and its leader Sasmit Patra, AIADMK leader O. Panneerselvam and Thambi Durai and Rajiv Ranjan Singh of Janata Dal (United) were also present.
Voting for the presidency will take place on July 18. If elected, Murmu will be the first tribal and second woman president of the country. Murmu is seen crossing the majority mark after backing Naveen Patnaik’s BJD and Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress. The term of current President Ram Nath Kovind ends on July 24.
