Chandigarh. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday submitted his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit following the defeat of the Congress in the assembly elections.
Congress has suffered a crushing defeat in the Punjab Assembly elections. The Aam Aadmi Party won 92 seats in the 117-member assembly, while the Congress was reduced to 18 seats. Many veterans including Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Parkash Singh Badal and Amarinder Singh lost to AAP candidates.
