Prime Minister Narendra Modi did the radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’ for the first time after the assembly elections. In his address at the 87th edition of the monthly radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Modi exuded confidence that together all Indians would fulfill the dream of ‘Self-reliant India’. He mentioned about the GeM portal and said that in the last one year, through the GeM portal, the government has bought things worth more than one lakh crore rupees and about 1.25 lakh small entrepreneurs and small entrepreneurs from every nook and corner of the country. The shopkeepers have sold their goods directly to the government.
The Prime Minister said that there was a time when only big companies could sell goods to the government, but now the country is changing and the old systems are also changing. PM Modi said that even a small shopkeeper can sell his goods to the government on the GeM portal. This is the new India. He not only dreams big but also shows the courage to reach that goal, where no one has reached before. The Prime Minister said that on the strength of this courage, all of us Indians together will definitely fulfill the dream of self-reliant India.
During the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, PM Modi said that at one time the figure of exports from India used to be 100 billion, sometimes 150 billion, sometimes 200 billion and today India is worth 400 billion dollars i.e. 30 lakh crores. export has been reached. PM Modi said that the biggest thing is that new products are being sent to new countries. Now that you go to other countries, ‘Made in India’ products will be more visible than before.
Government started GeM portal in 2016
The Government e-Market (GeM) portal was launched on 9 August 2016 for online purchase of goods and services by all Ministries and Departments of the Central Government. Presently Government Departments, Ministries, Public Sector Units, State Governments and Central Armed Police Forces are allowed to transact through this portal. A wide range of stationery to vehicles are available on this portal. Automobiles, computers and office furniture are currently the most purchased products. Apart from this, there are other services including transportation, logistics, waste management, web casting and analytics.
