The South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Monday issued orders to the authorities that in view of Navratri, from April 2 to April 11, meat and meat shops will not open for nine days. Failure to do so has ordered action. South Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Mukesh Suryan has said in a letter that keeping in mind the sentiments of the general public, instructions have been issued to the concerned authorities to close the meat shops.
SDMC Mayor Mukesh Suryan said, “When we do not even eat onions and garlic during Navratras, we have decided that no meat shop will function or open in any meat shop in South MCD during this period. From now on, in the policy of the new license, it will be written that the meat shop will have to be closed during Navratras.
Suryan said that we will also issue license with the same condition in future. Regarding this, I have also written to the Chief Minister that the exemption on liquor during Navratri should be withdrawn. If possible, stop the sale of liquor for 9 days.
On behalf of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, it has been said that people who worship Goddess Durga during Navratri eat pure vegetarian food. During the nine-day fast, they also abstain from consuming non-vegetarian foods, alcohol and some spices. The city area has also been painted according to the festival, the official statement said.
It is worth noting that earlier in Ghaziabad too, meat sale was banned on the occasion of Navratri but after 12 hours this order was withdrawn. In fact, in view of Navratri, Mayor Asha Sharma had on Thursday issued an order to keep all meat shops closed in Ghaziabad.
After this order issued, the administration had closed all the meat shops. However, 12 hours after the order, Mayor Sharma withdrew his order. At the same time, it was said in the order that according to the instructions of the mayor, cleanliness should be maintained in the temples.
