Supreme Court Justice U U Lalit has made important remarks about the judges coming to the court. He said that if children can go to school at 7 in the morning then why can’t judges and lawyers start their work at 9 o’clock. In fact, Justice Uday U Lalit started hearing the cases an hour before the normal time on Friday. So he made this comment.
Significantly, the Supreme Court bench assembles at 10:30 and after that the listed cases are heard. It lasts till four o’clock. During this, there is a lunch break from one to two o’clock. But contrary to this practice, Justice Lalit started hearing the case at 9.30 on Friday. His bench also includes Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Sudhanshu Dhulia.
Former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, who appeared in the bail case, lauded the bench for sitting for the hearing ahead of time. “I must say that this time of 9.30 is a more appropriate time to start the courts,” he said. To this, Justice Lalit said, “I have always believed that the court should start work early.”
He said, “Ideally, we should sit at 9 in the morning. Because if our kids can go to school at 7 in the morning, then why can’t we come to court at 9?
It is worth noting that in August this year, Justice U U Lalit is going to become the Chief Justice. Justice Lalit will be the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from August 27 to November 8, after the retirement of the current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, NV Ramana. He said that the Supreme Court bench should start at 9 am. After this there is a break of half an hour at eleven thirty.
He said that after the break, the hearing of cases should be resumed at 12 o’clock and lunch should be done by 2 o’clock. This will give more time to fresh cases in the evening and cases which require longer hearings.
