The Bharatiya Janata Party suspended its spokesperson Nupur Sharma on Sunday (5 June 2022) for making controversial statements on Prophet Mohammad during a TV debate. At the same time, during a TV debate, when a panelist came to the defense of Nupur Sharma, there was a heated argument between writer Shubrastha and Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak.
During the debate, the anchor raised the question whether religion is seen in whenever any action is taken inside India. In response to this question, the writer Shubrastha said that this happens because the opposition in India, especially those who want to appease a particular community, have not seen the debate of the global environment.
There is no insult to any religion in this: Shubrastha further said that after September 11, he did not see a healthy debate on Islamic fundamentalism in the US. We cannot even see the basis of such a healthy debate in India. She said, “I am not taking any side but, if something is written in any book or religious text and we cannot openly comment, debate on it, then our democracy is useless. And there is no insult to any religion in this.”
Responding to Shubrastha’s talk, Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak said, “As Shubrastha said that the logic of any religious text cannot be questioned, then this question should first be asked by Amit Shah and the Pradhan Sevak. It was he who shrugged off Nupur Sharma’s statement. Ragini Nayak further said, “Either Modi-Amit Shah are right or Nupur Sharma, now this good luck and BJP should decide among themselves.”
Nupur Sharma Apologizes With this she said that I take back my words. I did not intend to hurt anyone, if my words have hurt anyone’s religious sentiments, then I take back my words.
