Indian Student Arrested In America: The effects of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas are being seen all over the world. Student protests are intensifying in many parts of America. Meanwhile, Achintya Sivalingam, an Indian-origin student studying at America’s prestigious Princeton University, has been arrested during a pro-Palestine protest on the college campus. According to Princeton Alumni Weekly, Sivalingam was arrested Thursday morning for protesting and setting up a tent on campus. Another student, Hassan Saeed, has also been arrested along with Achintya Sivalingam.
Arrested because of this
University spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said two graduate students were arrested for trespassing and were “immediately escorted off campus,” adding that erecting tents on campus is a violation of university policy. Michael Hotchkiss, another university spokesperson, confirmed this to the Daily Princetonian. Sivalingam is a Master of Public Affairs student in International Development at Princeton, while Syed is pursuing a Ph.D.
a warning was given
University spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said in a statement that students “were repeatedly warned by the Department of Public Safety to cease the activity and leave the area.” If he did not do so, he was also warned of facing disciplinary action. Jennifer Morrill said that after the arrests of Achintya and Hasan, other protesters left of their own free will.
Protests are continuously increasing
Thousands of students in America are protesting against the deaths in Gaza due to the Israeli military campaign. The protests, which started at Columbia University in New York, have now reached colleges across the country. Protesters are calling on their universities to divest from companies profiting from the Gaza war and advocating for an immediate ceasefire.
