ottawa: Amidst the ongoing tension between India and Canada, the incident of murder of an Indian student in South Vancouver, Canada has come to light. A 24-year-old Indian student was shot dead inside a car in South Vancouver, Canada, local police said. Indian student Chirag Antil was found dead inside a vehicle in the area after neighbors heard gunshots, Vancouver police said.
According to foreign media reports, the incident is said to have occurred on April 12 at around 11 pm. Canadian officers were called to 55 East Avenue and Main Street after residents heard gunshots. Chirag, 24, was then found dead inside a vehicle in the area. No arrest has been made in this case yet and the investigation is ongoing. Chirag’s brother Ronit told reporters that when they talked on the phone in the morning, Chirag seemed happy. Later he took out his Audi to go somewhere, when he was shot dead.
Student Union sought help from the Ministry of External Affairs
After the incident, Varun Chaudhary, head of the National Students Union of India, the student wing of the Congress, tagged the Ministry of External Affairs in a post on Twitter and requested for assistance to the student’s family. He wrote, “Chirag, an Indian student in Vancouver, Canada, We urge the Ministry of External Affairs to closely monitor the progress of the investigation and ensure that justice is delivered swiftly.” We further request the Ministry to extend all necessary support to the family of the deceased during this difficult time.” According to local media reports, Chirag’s family raised funds through crowdfunding platform GoFundMe to bring his body back to India. Chirag was a resident of Haryana.
