new Delhi . UGC and AICTE have warned Indian students and their parents not to take admission in professional courses in China during the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to India. The University Grants Commission’s (UGC) warning, a first-of-its-kind warning regarding Chinese educational institutions, enforces existing rules that both the UGC and AICTE do not recognize such degree courses conducted only in online mode without prior approval.
The UGC said, “Some universities in China have started issuing notices for admissions to various degree programs for the current and upcoming academic years. China, on the other hand, has imposed strict travel restrictions in the wake of COVID-19 and in November 2020. All visas have been suspended from
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) member secretary said, “A large number of Indian students have not been able to return to China to continue their studies due to these restrictions. There has been no relaxation in restrictions so far. Also, The Chinese authorities have already informed that the courses will be conducted online.”
As per the extant rules, UGC and AICTE do not recognize such degree courses conducted only in online mode without prior approval.
“In view of the above, students are advised to do due diligence for pursuing higher education to avoid further problems in employment or higher studies,” the UGC said.
AICTE had issued a warning to students going to Pakistan in October last year. In that caveat, AICTE said that Indian citizens and overseas Indian nationals must obtain NOC from AICTE before enrolling in engineering and technology courses in Pakistan.
When he issued a warning to Pakistani institutions, AICTE had said that a degree obtained after studying in unrecognized institutions is not equivalent to a degree in Indian institutions.
Even after spending huge amount on fees to get degree from such unrecognized institutes, such students face problem in getting job opportunities in India.
