The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested the kingpin of an inter-state narcotics gang, who was involved in the supply of banned narcotics for the last 25 years. an officer gave this information on Wednesday. According to the official, 44-year-old accused Deepak Rahi belongs to a family in which almost all members including his wife, parents, brother, uncle, sister, niece are involved in cases of drug trafficking, attack on police, riots and stone pelting. Rahi, who is absconding in several cases including MCOCA in Delhi, was arrested from Vijay Nagar in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, 28 March. An amount of Rs 10 lakh was also recovered from him at the time of arrest.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Jasmeet Singh said that the accused was on the run for a year in several criminal cases after being released on bail granted by the Delhi High Court in a general order due to the COVID pandemic in Delhi.
“Despite the Delhi High Court’s order of surrender, Rahi violated the order. He was also on the run in another drug smuggling case,” the DCP said.
The official said that Rahi was earlier involved in 20 criminal cases in Delhi including MCOCA, NDPS Act, dacoity, assault, atrocities, theft, mischief, intimidation, rioting, molestation, Arms Act, Excise Act etc.
Two brothers, father and mother of accused Deepak are also accused. Whenever the police raid their houses to conduct searches, recover drugs or arrest suspects, Deepak and his family members start pelting stones at the police so that NDPS Act cases cannot be registered against them.
