The Mega Auction for IPL 2022 has broken all the old records of viewership. According to the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), around 50 lakh people watched the auction held on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. This year 600 players had entered the auction in the mega auction. Out of this, 204 players were sold, including 67 foreign players.
There was tremendous interest of the people in the auction
According to the Economic Times report, the mega auction saw an increase of over 40% in total consumption on TVs. This time fans spent 3.6 billion minutes to watch the auction. In 2018 also there was a mega auction. Then fans spent 2.5 billion minutes watching the auction.
21.8 lakh people watched live streaming simultaneously
The auction was also telecast on Disney+Hotstar. At one time, 21.8 lakh people were streaming live video of the auction on Disney + Hotstar. Disney Star Head Sports Sanjog Gupta told Economic Times that this year’s auction was the best. We got an overwhelming response from the fans.
Star hikes rates for sponsorship
Not just the viewership, the official broadcaster Star Sports is expecting a good amount of sponsorship this season as well. Star has increased the rate for IPL on air sponsorship by up to 20 percent. According to media reports, Star Sports has also signed deals with 10 advertisers with increased rates.
Star deals with 10 companies
These include Cred, Dream XI, Byju’s, Tot’s, Asian Paints, Spotify, Meesho, Swiggy Instamart, Kamala Pasand and Pepsi. The new rate for co-presenting partners is Rs 160 crore. At the same time, the rate for associate partners is Rs 90 crore. The rate for co-presenting partners in IPL 2021 was Rs 130 to 140 crores. At the same time, associate partners had to pay Rs 60 to 65 crore.
70 league matches will be played on four grounds
Earlier, the new format was announced by the IPL Governing Council on Friday. The 10 teams were divided into two groups. The 15th season will start from 26 March. 70 league matches will be played on four grounds in Mumbai and Pune.
