England pacer Mark Wood has been ruled out of the upcoming IPL due to injury. In a blow to Lucknow Super Giants, England pacer Mark Wood has been ruled out of the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 due to an elbow injury. Wood was injured last week during the first Test against West Indies.
According to a report in ESPN Cricinfo, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has informed the Lucknow franchise about Wood’s injury. The franchisee has a few options to choose from. However, no one’s name has been finalized yet.
Wood played in only one match in the Indian Premier League 2018. He was then a part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise. Fans were excited when Mark Wood, currently one of the world’s finest limited overs bowlers, joined the Lucknow Super Giants for the IPL 2022 season.
It was already known that he would not play for Lucknow from the start, as he was ruled out of the first Test against West Indies last week. Wood could bowl only 17 overs in the match.
Mark Wood was included in his team by Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022 auction by paying a hefty amount of 7.5 crores. However, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals also bid on him. In the match against West Indies at North Sound, Wood could bowl only 17 overs. KL Rahul is the captain of the Super Giants and Andy Flower is the head coach.
