Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed on Monday that the gunmen who attacked a concert hall in a Moscow suburb last week were “Islamic radicals”. According to reports, more than 130 people were killed and dozens were injured in this attack. In a meeting with government officials, Putin said the killings were carried out by Islamic extremists. Let us tell you that Putin had said last week that 4 attackers were arrested while trying to escape to Ukraine.
‘Why did the attackers run towards Ukraine?’
Russian President Putin once again avoided mentioning Islamic State in his statement on Monday. He said it was important to find out ‘why the terrorists tried to flee to Ukraine after committing their crime and who was waiting for them there.’ After an associate of Islamic State claimed responsibility, America had justified the terrorist organization’s claim. French President Emmanuel Macron said that according to the intelligence available to France, the ‘IS unit’ is responsible for the Moscow attack.
4 accused were presented in court
Earlier on Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had denied holding anyone responsible and urged journalists to wait for the results of the investigation by Russian agencies. He also declined to comment on reports that the US had warned authorities in Moscow about a possible terrorist attack on March 7. Peskov said that such intelligence information is confidential. Four people arrested in connection with a Russian concert hall attack were presented in a Moscow court on Sunday and charged with terrorism.
‘So far 137 people have lost their lives in the attacks’
According to reports, during the hearing the accused also showed injury marks to the court, and one person was barely conscious. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said the investigation was still ongoing but pledged that ‘the criminals will be punished, they do not deserve mercy.’ Officials said 137 people were killed and more than 180 were injured in the Friday night attack on the Crocus City Hall in the western outskirts of Moscow. He said that 97 people are still admitted in the hospital. (Language)
