Srinagar . The terrorist killed during an encounter with security forces in Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district belonged to the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and was involved in several terror crimes. Officials gave this information on Tuesday.
Police said that based on specific inputs generated by them regarding the presence of terrorist in Village Charsu area of Awantipora, a search operation was launched by Police, Army’s 42 RR and CRPF.
“During the search operation, as the search party moved towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately at the search party, which was retaliated effectively, triggering the encounter,” police said.
In the ensuing encounter, one terrorist was killed and his body was retrieved from the encounter site.
He has been identified as Owais Raja, a resident of Subhanpora.
Police said, “As per police records, the terrorist killed was a classified terrorist of banned terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed. He was part of a group involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on police/security forces and atrocities on civilians “
Meanwhile, Kashmir’s Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar described the operation as very important as it was located very close to the National Highway.
Incriminating material, arms and ammunition including one AK-56 rifle, three AK magazines and 80 AK rounds were recovered from the encounter site.
“All the recovered material has been taken on the case record for further investigation,” the police said.
Case has been registered and investigation has been started.
