An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Lari area of South Kashmir’s district Shopian on Wednesday night. This is the second encounter in the last 15 hours. A cordon and search operation was launched on the basis of an intelligence input about the presence of terrorists in the area, security forces officials said on Wednesday night.
“As soon as the joint team of security forces cordoned off the suspected area, the hiding terrorists opened fire, which was retaliated,” a security official said. The police has informed by tweeting that the police and security forces personnel are currently engaged at work.
On the same day, two terrorists were killed during an encounter in Tral area of Awantipora sub-district in South Kashmir. The slain terrorists have been identified as Safat Muzaffar Sofi alias Muawiyah of Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGUH) and Umar Teli alias Talha of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar tweeted, “Before increasing their heat in Tral area, both the terrorists were involved in several terrorist incidents in Srinagar city, including the recent murder of Sarpanch (Sameer Ahmed) in Khanmoh Srinagar. .’
