He has said that he has repeatedly drawn the attention of the Central Government and Central Undertakings for the compensation of land taken by the Central Government PSUs for coal mining projects in the state and the revenue received in lieu of coal mining from the state. In a letter to the Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has said that one lakh thousand one hundred and forty two (1101142) crore rupees in lieu of land acquired for mining projects of subsidiaries and central undertakings of Coal India Limited in the state. claim is made. Apart from this, as per the rules of MMDR (Mines and Mineral Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, there is an outstanding of Rs 32 thousand crore and Rs two thousand nine hundred crore in lieu of royalty of washed coal.
The chief minister wrote in the letter that at present, CIL’s subsidiaries in Jharkhand are paying royalty on run-of-mine coal basis instead of sending washed coal. The decision of the courts in this regard is clear. Therefore the revenue should be paid to the state government as per the court’s decisions and rules. Soren said that the socio-economic development of Jharkhand mainly depends on the revenue from these minerals. The attention of Ministry of Coal and NITI Aayog has been drawn in this regard time and again, but till now no step has been taken in the direction of payment of arrears.
