New Delhi. In a major operation in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, security forces engaged in a fierce encounter with terrorists, resulting in the killing of three terrorists. Reports have revealed that two terrorists are still feared to be hiding. The encounter began in Samnu village on Thursday evening, with intermittent firing between security forces and terrorists. Initially aimed at a search operation, the situation turned into a confrontation when security forces successfully killed three terrorists. However, concerns remain over the possible presence of two more terrorists in the area, leading to continued search operations.
Encounter revealed
An army officer revealed that the operation was launched after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists in Nehama village, following which security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. However, the search operation turned into an encounter when the terrorists started firing on the security personnel.
Similar incidents across the valley
The development follows a series of similar incidents across the region, where within a period of two days, security forces successfully killed a total of five terrorists. Two terrorists were surrounded and killed in Baramulla, while three terrorists were killed in the ongoing encounter in Kulgam. Authorities suspect two more terrorists hiding in the area, due to which a massive search operation is being conducted.
Failed infiltration attempt in Baramulla
Earlier, Kashmir Zone Police reported foiling an infiltration attempt in Baramulla, where two terrorists were trying to violate the Indian border. Security forces effectively countered their efforts and seized arms, ammunition and other incriminating material from the terrorists.
Fire broke out in shops in Ramban
Apart from this, a tragic incident also took place in Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir, where two shops caught fire, reducing them to ashes. The incident occurred in the Nachalana area, and prompt action by military personnel upon reaching the spot helped in quickly extinguishing the fire.
