Panaji. Goa’s caretaker Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday welcomed the Karnataka High Court’s decision on the hijab controversy, saying it would bring equality in educational institutions. He said that I welcome the decision of the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka on the Hijab controversy. It has upheld that the Constitution is supreme.
Sawant tweeted, “The decision will empower educational institutions to determine the dress code. An important step towards bringing equality.”
On Monday, a special bench of the Karnataka High Court dismissed all the petitions seeking a direction to allow wearing of hijab in classrooms.
The HC said that wearing hijab is not an essential part of Islam. Wearing the dress is constitutional and students cannot object to it.
