The situation has become clear regarding the post of Chief Minister in Goa and Manipur. It is reported that Pramod Sawant and N Biren Singh will be the CM of the state. His swearing-in ceremony may be held after Holi. In the 40-seat Goa, the Bharatiya Janata Party has managed to stay in power by winning 20 seats. At the same time, 32 seats came to the party’s account in Manipur. Both the prominent leaders of the state have reached Delhi and met the central leadership.
On Tuesday, Sawant had informed that he has reached Delhi to meet the central leadership regarding the next step in the state. In a conversation with news agency ANI, he had said, “I have come here to meet the central leadership and discuss the further process in the state.” Sawant had earlier said that the government would be formed after the election of the legislature party leader in the presence of a central observer of the BJP.
The Parliamentary Board of BJP has appointed Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar as the Central Observer of Goa. At the same time, another minister L Murugan has been made deputy observer. After the BJP’s victory in the 2022 assembly elections, Sawant submitted his resignation to Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai on March 12 for the formation of a new government.
BJP got the support of MGP and independent candidates
The Congress, which is considered a strong contender in the state, could get only 11 seats this time. Though the BJP has not got a clear majority in the state due to lack of one seat, the way has been cleared for the party to form the government with the support of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak (MGP) and independent candidates. According to the Election Commission of India, the vote share of the BJP in the state stood at 33.31 per cent. Whereas, Congress had 23.46 vote share.
Discussion on government formation in Manipur
According to the agency, Singh has arrived on Wednesday to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “I have come to meet the Prime Minister and the Home Minister,” he said. He has also accepted to discuss the issue of government formation in the state during the meeting. Singh, who reached Delhi on Tuesday, also met BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda.
