South Korea’s leading automaker Kia Motors today updated its vehicle portfolio and introduced a new model Kia Carens. This is the company’s fourth car in the Indian market as well as the first three-row model for the market here. The global debut of this car has also been done today, which the world has seen for the first time.
With the 7-seat car unveiling, the existing models like Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700 are going to face difficulties in the market. At present, the company has only displayed it and has not disclosed its price. However, its official booking can be done through the official website of the company. It is being told that its price will also be announced early next year.
Kia Motors has chosen the Indian market for the global debut of this car and it will be first introduced in this market. The company is manufacturing this car at its plant in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The global debut of this car from India clearly shows the importance of the Indian market for the company. The company has gained immense popularity among the Indian buyers in a very short span of time.
How is the new Kia Carens:
Like other models of the company, it also has a tiger nose front grille. Although the company has not yet given any information about its body type whether it is an SUV or MUV. If we talk about the size, then its length is 4540mm, width is 1800mm, height is 1700mm and it has a wheelbase of 2780mm. Its wheelbase is the best among all the models in the segment. It is clear from the size of the exterior that you will also get better cabin space inside the car.
With the Carens, the company wants to target customers who want to buy a feature loaded vehicle with a three-row. Even though in terms of design, the Carrence may have the proportions of an MPV, but the vehicle gives a lot of SUV feel. At the front, a flat bonnet with an overhead nose has been given, which splits into two parts. A thin grille and a split headlamp set-up have been given in its upper part.
The Cairns gets a Y-shaped LED Daytime Signature Running Lamp, the main headlamp of which is found below the cluster. Kia’s signature ‘tiger nose’ styling element is no longer on the grille, but has been made with a chrome trim at the bottom. Its side profile matches that of the Seltos, though the rear door is taller than the latter. It also gets a strong character line that starts from the headlamps, meets the doors and then rises at the rear to meet the tail lamps. The Carens also gets body cladding along the length of the wheel arches and doors. At the rear, the Carens gets a pair of wraparound LED tail lamps.

The dashboard is quite deep, protruding well towards the front windshield. Its top variant has a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and the lower variant has an 8.0-inch screen, which is given center on the dashboard. The Carens also gets roof mounted AC vents that improve rear cooling, however, almost eliminating the possibility of a large panoramic sunroof.
The Kia Carens also gets a fully digital instrument cluster, 8-speaker Bose sound system and a multi-function steering wheel with buttons for audio controls, voice commands and calling, as seen on the Seltos and Sonnet. As far as the seating arrangement is concerned, the Carens is offered with 6-seater and 7-seater configurations. Captur seat is being given in its 6-seater variant and bench seat will be seen in 7-seater variant.
Other features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Kia’s UVO Connected technology, 64 color ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, seat-back tables with cup holders and an air purifier. Apart from this, safety has also been taken care of in this car, it has 6 airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist, Emergency Stop Signal, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Hold. Assist disc brakes on all four wheels, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and rear parking sensors are available as standard across all variants.
Engine Capacity:
The company is offering Kia Carens with both petrol and diesel engine options. Its petrol variants are available with two engine options, in which one model has a 1.5-liter capacity 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that generates power of 115hp and torque of 144Nm. On the other hand, in its second model, the company has given a 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine that generates 140hp power and 242Nm torque. Its diesel model was given a 4-cylinder engine of 1.5 liters capacity, which provides power of 115hp and torque of 250Nm.
The petrol engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual clutch transmission gearbox. Whereas the diesel engine comes mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. At present, the company has only displayed it, its price is yet to be announced. This car can be launched for sale in the first quarter of next year.
