Students of Alia University clashed with police in Park Circus area of the city on Saturday evening when their rally to protest against the death of their partner was stopped from proceeding through a barricade in Padmapukur area. Around 500 protesters took out a candlelight rally from the university campus to Antley in New Town to protest the death of student leader Anish Khan, a police official said.

A section of the agitators tried to cross the barricades put up by the police near Padmapukur, demanding justice for Khan, following which a scuffle broke out between the two sides.
However, it was brought under control immediately, the official said. But some protesters blocked a section of the road, disrupting traffic in the evening. Adil Khan, one of the agitating students, vowed to remain near Padmapukur till all those involved in the brutal murder of Anish Khan were identified and put behind bars.
At the same time, the police said that none of its employees was involved in the incident. Friends of the deceased student leader claimed that he was killed for trying to create an anti-system movement. The protesters also said that they would march till Nabanna on Tuesday.
