Beirut. Lebanese President Michel Aoun said on Monday that the Russia-Ukraine conflict has affected Lebanon’s ability to secure enough wheat and urged the United Nations to increase food support for his country. This information was given in a statement of the Presidency of Lebanon. “Wheat warehouses were destroyed in the Beirut port blasts in 2020, and the war in Ukraine further affected our access to this commodity,” Xinhua news agency quoted Aun as saying.
Aun’s remarks came during his meeting in Italy with World Food Program executive director David Beasley, who said the WFP would continue to support Lebanon despite the increasingly difficult global situation.
Aun also met with Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), who called on the member states of the FAO organization to double their production of basic food products with the aim of countering the emerging global situation at the war in Ukraine. Will request

Aun arrived in Italy on Monday and will also hold a meeting with the Italian President and officials.
