Bengaluru. India took a 3-0 lead in the 5-match T20 series by defeating Afghanistan in the Double Super Over at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. With this win against Afghanistan, captain Rohit Sharma now has the most T20I wins (42) as captain of India in men’s cricket. Apart from this, ‘Hitman’ also recorded many other records in his name.
Rohit Sharma completed his fifth T20I century in spectacular fashion in the third match against Afghanistan. Along with this, he also achieved a special achievement, which took him to the pinnacle of centuries in this format, which is the highest by any batsman in T20I.
In this matter, Rohit Sharma, known as ‘Hitman’, left behind batsmen like Glenn Maxwell and Suryakumar Yadav. In T20 International cricket, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and Indian team’s Suryakumar Yadav have scored 4-4 centuries, while Pakistan’s Babar Azam, New Zealand’s Colin Munro and Czech Republic’s Sabaun Davizi have scored 3-3 centuries respectively.
In a brilliant performance of the partnership, Rohit got a capable ally in Rinku Singh and together they formed an important partnership. The duo’s unbroken 190* partnership not only became the highest partnership for India in T20Is but also surpassed the milestone of 176 runs set by Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson against Ireland in 2022.
Rohit’s leadership abilities shined when he scored three of his five T20 centuries while captaining India. This milestone brought him level with Babar Azam in terms of most T20I centuries as a captain, which is a testament to his batting prowess and captaincy skills.
The climax of this cricket saga revealed Rohit’s age – 36 years and 262 days – making him the oldest player from a Test-playing nation to score a century in T20I. This historic achievement overtook the previous record of the formidable Chris Gayle.
Against Afghanistan, Rohit scored unbeaten 121 runs in 69 balls with the help of 11 fours and eight sixes. Rinku Singh played an unbeaten inning of 69 runs in 39 balls, which included two fours and six sixes. Both scored 190 runs in an unbroken partnership for the fifth wicket.
