accused of discouraging investors
The BJP spokesperson accused Rahul Gandhi of discouraging investors from investing in India at a time when the world is viewing the country as an “attractive destination” and foreign companies are leaving China to do business here. “In a big university, he is saying bad things about India to people. While Pakistan also no longer dares to say these things about India on the global stage. Gandhi is projecting it (the country) as a place where democracy is no more and the judiciary has been weakened.
Democracy, media, judiciary was mentioned
Patra questioned whether Gandhi was working as an agent on the pay scale of some agency to bring India down. In a lecture at Cambridge University, Gandhi had alleged that Indian democracy was under attack and many leaders, including him (Rahul), were being monitored. Gandhi, a former Congress president, listed five key aspects of the alleged attack on Indian democracy – capture and control of the media and the judiciary; surveillance and bullying; coercion by federal law enforcement agencies; Attacks on minorities, Dalits and Adivasis and silencing voices of dissent.
‘You are not a promiscuous child’
Patra said the Congress leader talked about minorities being treated as second class citizens. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi and the Gandhi family can stoop to any extent to destroy the fabric of India. Patra hit back at the Congress leader saying, “Just because you are not a promising kid. Not having promising kids from your dynastic party doesn’t mean India isn’t an attractive place.’ Patra said that Gandhi or other Congress leaders also gave their mobile phones for examination by an inquiry committee set up by the Supreme Court to probe the allegation of spying through Pegasus malware.
Thousands of phones were tapped during the UPA regime
He said an RTI reply revealed that thousands of phones were tapped and hundreds of emails were read by government agencies when the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was in power and recalled that former President and then cabinet minister Pranab Mukherjee had raised suspicions that his office was snooped on at the behest of another minister. The BJP leader said Gandhi had talked about harmony and nationalism in China and accused him (Rahul) of seeing India not as a single nation but as a “compromise”.
The Yellow River of China is visible but the Ganges is not visible
Patra said Gandhi spoke of the Yellow River’s role in building Chinese nationalism, but he did not see the Ganges in India. Patra criticized Gandhi for making his comments at a time when India is hosting the G20, and world leaders are recognizing the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that it is being said that if anyone can calm the Russia-Ukraine dispute, it is Modi.
