Kolkata: West Bengal is the most important state for the BJP which is targeting 370 seats in the battle for Lok Sabha elections 2024. There are 42 Lok Sabha seats here. The main contest here is between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP. BJP’s performance in this state in the last Lok Sabha elections was excellent. It had won 18 seats. At that time the command of BJP in the state was in the hands of Dilip Ghosh.
Now many news are coming about Dilip Ghosh only. The first news is that Dilip Ghosh’s constituency has been changed in this Lok Sabha election. He has not got the ticket from his familiar seat Medinipur. He has been removed from here and sent to Burdwan-Durgapur constituency. Another list of BJP candidates came on Sunday night. Dilip Ghosh is no longer a candidate from Medinipur. In his place, Agnimitra has been made the candidate from Medinipur. In this list, candidates were announced for 18 other areas of Bengal. But, the most talked about is the change of seat of Dilip Ghosh.
Dilip Ghosh will contest elections from here
However, there was speculation that Dilip Ghosh could be removed from Medinipur. The former Bengal BJP president has now been sent to a difficult area. His rival there is former World Cup-winning cricketer and two-time MP on BJP ticket Kirti Azad. This time Kirti Azad is contesting from Burdwan-Durgapur seat on Trinamool ticket.
In fact, after leaving the post of BJP state president, Dilip Ghosh’s activity continued to decrease. Dilip was not seen during Narendra Modi’s last few visits to the state. Dilip Ghosh was not present at Modi’s meetings in Arambagh and Krishnanagar earlier this month. Along with this, Dilip Ghosh’s name was not in the BJP’s list of 20 seats in the first phase.
But, why was Dilip Ghosh sent from Medinipur to Burdwan-Durgapur? According to an insider, the BJP top leadership wanted to field a female face against the Trinamool candidate in Medinipur. Therefore Agnimitra was chosen. Then the logic behind sending Dilip to Burdwan-Durgapur is that Dilip, being an RSS pracharak, has worked in the Burdwan-Durgapur region for a long time. He knows the entire area.
