One of these seats is Nagpur Lok Sabha seat of the state. Currently, Union Road and Transport Minister Nitis Gadkari is the MP from here, but this seat was once a Congress stronghold. He has been a Congress MP from Nagpur Lok Sabha seat 12 times from 1952 to 2019. He has been an independent MP once, All India Forward Bloc once and BJP MP thrice. Congress’s Vilas Muktemwar was the MP from here from 1998 to 2014, but in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Nitin Gadkari defeated him and captured the seat. After this, in 2019 also, he reached Delhi after getting elected as MP from here and it is expected that BJP will make Gadkari its candidate from this seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections also.
Dominance of OBC, SC and Muslim voters
Nagpur Lok Sabha seat is dominated by OBC, SC and Muslim voters. A total of 80 percent voters in this seat belong to OBC, SC and Muslim communities. On the other hand, Gadkari is a Brahmin. Despite not fitting into the caste equation, Gadkari had won this most important seat of Vidarbha region due to internal differences in Congress and his development image. Whereas in the 2019 elections the number reached here was 40,24,197. The number of young voters is high in this seat.
2019 election results
In the 2019 elections, Bharatiya Janata Party once again fielded Nitin Gadkari on this seat. The party was confident that Gadkari would win the elections by a huge margin on the basis of his work. He also maintained the trust of the party and was re-elected as MP by winning the election by a margin of more than two lakh votes. He got 660,221 votes in these elections. At the same time, Congress had fielded Nana Patole, who was called his own disciple, against him. Patole had been a BJP leader and considered Gadkari as his political guru. He has also been a former BJP MP. He could get only 4,44,212 votes.
In 2014, Gadkari had snatched away his stronghold from Congress.
Earlier, in the 2014 elections, Bharatiya Janata Party entrusted the responsibility of conquering the difficult fort of Nagpur to its former national president Nitin Gadkari. This seat was a stronghold of Congress. In this respect, the battle here was difficult and Nitin Gadkari fought this battle with great effort and defeated Congress by 3 lakh votes. In these elections, Gadkari got 5,87,767 votes and Congress’s Vilas Muttemwar got 3,02,939 votes. At the same time, BSP was at third position (96433 votes) and Aam Aadmi Party (69081 votes) was at fourth position.
