Dehradun: The names of candidates for the two remaining parliamentary seats of Uttarakhand, Haridwar and Garhwal (Pauri), have been declared in the second list of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates for the Lok Sabha elections on Wednesday. Former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat will contest from Haridwar and former Rajya Sabha member and party’s national media in-charge Anil Baluni will contest from Garhwal (Pauri).
Trivendra and Baluni have been replaced by two former chief ministers – Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Tirath Singh Rawat. Nishank and Tirath represent Haridwar and Garhwal (Pauri) seats respectively in the current Lok Sabha. Former Chief Minister Nishank had won from Haridwar in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has been continuously active in politics for the last 33 years.

Tirath Singh Rawat had won from Garhwal (Pauri) in 2019. Tirath was the Chief Minister for four months. Pushkar Singh Dhami was made the Chief Minister in 2021, a few months before the 2022 assembly elections. The party had announced its candidates for three other Lok Sabha seats – Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar, Tehri Garhwal and the only reserved (Scheduled Caste) seat Almora. The party has nominated sitting MPs, Minister of State for Defense and Tourism Ajay Bhatt, Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah and former Union Minister Ajay Tamta respectively on these seats.
