This time Law Minister Brajesh Pathak is contesting from here and major parties like SP, Congress, BSP have a challenge to beat him. The result of victory or defeat in the seat is decided by about 1.5 lakh Brahmins and about 50 thousand Sindhi-Punjabi voters.
Before the announcement of the candidate, there was a lot of political turmoil regarding this seat. In BJP, Rita Bahuguna was demanding ticket for her son. There were many other contenders as well. Even the SP did not open the cards for a long time. After much suspense, BJP MLA and Law Minister Brajesh Pathak from Central region was nominated from here. At the same time, SP bet on many-time councilor Raju Gandhi. Till the last day of nomination, there was talk of Rita Bahuguna’s son Mayank joining the SP, but later the speculation proved to be baseless. Not only this, in support of Brajesh Pathak, Rita Bahuguna and other ticketless leaders have also come down to ask for votes in the area. On the other hand, Congress has re-nominated Dilpreet, who had contested the 2019 by-election from here. BSP has fielded Anil Pandey and Aam Aadmi Party has fielded Ajay Kumar. The Brahmin-dominated seat was won by Satish Bhatia in only two elections since 1977, in 1991 and 1993. In all other elections, only Brahmin people’s representatives have given this area. Sundaram Vajpayee, a resident of Shringarnagar, says that the issue in the election is of development and security etc. Will vote on this. Radhika Piplani, who lives near Kalidas Marg, said that as a woman, our biggest issue is security and on this we will vote.
Issues here: The residential areas of the cantonment area need adequate facilities. Lack of drinking water for the people. Sewer problem is there since independence. Waterlogging is also an important issue during the rains.
