Many stories have been mentioned in religious texts regarding the third eye of Lord Shiva. According to one such story, when Lord Shiva was absorbed in his meditation, Mother Parvati covered his eyes with both her palms. Then there was darkness in the whole creation. Once Daksha Prajapati organized a grand havan and in that havan Mata Sati and Lord Shiva were not invited, but Mata Sati could not bear the humiliation done to Shiva and she committed self-immolation. Bholenath was so broken by this incident that he kept doing severe penance for years. Later on, Mother Sati took birth again as the daughter of Himalaya, but Lord Shiva was so absorbed in his meditation that he did not know anything.
In such a situation, all the gods wanted Mother Parvati to be united with Shiva as soon as possible, but all the efforts failed. In the end, Lord Kamadeva was called for help. After this, Kamadeva shot a flower arrow from behind a mango tree, which went straight to Shiva’s heart, which disturbed his heart.
Due to the distraction, Mahakal became so angry that he consumed Kamadeva with his third eye. But when Lord Shiva’s anger subsided and Lord Kamadeva’s wife Rati pleaded with Lord Shiva to revive her husband, Shiva said that Kamadeva would be born again as the son of Lord Krishna in Dwapara Yuga.
