Indian team won the Mohali Test against Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs. On the third day of the match, the Indian team bundled out the Sri Lankan team for 174 runs in the first innings and then 178 runs in the second innings. Team India scored 574 for eight in the first innings. Ravindra Jadeja was the hero of India’s victory. Apart from scoring an unbeaten 175, he also took nine wickets in the match. He was adjudged man of the match. This was the 100th Test match of former India captain Virat Kohli’s career. The team has gifted him a resounding victory.
This is India’s second biggest win over Sri Lanka in terms of innings margin. Prior to that he had defeated by an innings and 239 runs in the Test match played in Nagpur in 2017. At the same time, in 2017 won by an innings and 171 runs at Pallekele. Talking about the overall record, India could not break its old record. They defeated West Indies by an innings and 272 runs at Rajkot in 2018.

Ashwin overtakes Kapil Dev
Ravichandran Ashwin has become the second highest wicket-taker for India in Tests. He has left behind the great all-rounder Kapil Dev. Kapil Dev took 434 wickets. The record for taking the most wickets in Tests for Team India is held by veteran leg-spinner Anil Kumble. Kumble took 619 wickets. After Kapil Dev, former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh took 417 wickets. Two fast bowlers Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma have 311-311 wickets in their name.
What happened on the third day of the match?
Sri Lanka started their innings ahead of 108 for four on the third day of the match. Pathum Nisanka 26 and Charit Asalanka put on a half-century partnership. During this Nisanka completed his half-century. Sri Lanka got the fifth blow on the score of 161. Asalanka went lbw off Bumrah after scoring 19 runs. Sri Lankan innings collapsed as soon as he was dismissed. The last six wickets fell within his 13 runs and the Lankan team were bundled out for 174 runs.
Pathum Nisanka remained unbeaten on 61 off 133 balls. Dickwella was out for two off Jadeja’s delivery. Lakmal, Embuldeniya, Vishwa Fernando and Lahiru Kumara could not even open the account. Ravindra Jadeja took five wickets, Jayant Yadav and Mohammed Shami two wickets each in the first innings for India. Jasprit Bumrah gets a breakthrough.
Sri Lanka disappointed in the second innings as well
India got a huge lead of 400 runs in the first innings. He called Sri Lanka to play follow-on. Sri Lankan batsmen disappointed in the second innings as well. He did not show the spirit to stay at the crease. Opener Lahiru Thirimanne became the victim of Ashwin without opening the account. After that, Pathum Nisanka scored six runs and was caught by Rishabh Pant off Ashwin’s ball. Dimuth Karunaratne (27 runs) was caught by Shami at the hands of Pant.
Even after the collapse of the top order, the Sri Lankan batsmen could not play well. Dhananjay de Silva scored 30 runs and was caught by Shreyas Iyer off Jadeja’s delivery. Asalanka (20 runs) was caught by Ashwin at the hands of Kohli. Angelo Mathews went lbw off Jadeja after scoring 28 runs. Suranga Lakmal could not even open the account. Jayant took his catch off Jadeja’s ball. Embuldeniya became the victim of Jadeja after scoring two runs. Mohammed Shami to Vishwa Fernando lbw. Ashwin got Lahiru Kumara caught by Shami. Dickwella remained unbeaten on 51. Ashwin and Jadeja took four wickets each in the second innings for India. Mohammed Shami got two successes.
Apart from Jadeja’s century, three batsmen hit half-centuries
Talking about India’s first innings, Jadeja scored the highest unbeaten 175. He was followed by Rishabh Pant (96), Ravichandran Ashwin (61) and Hanuma Vihari (58). Virat Kohli scored 45, Mayank Agarwal 33, Rohit Sharma 29, Shreyas Iyer 27 and Mohammed Shami scored 20 not out. Only two runs could come off Jayant Yadav’s bat. Suranga Lakmal, Vishwa Fernando and Embuldeniya took two wickets each for Sri Lanka.
