Maldives: Maldives government has purchased drones from Turkey to patrol the country’s economic zone. This information was received from a media news on Saturday. There are speculations that the government may start operating drones within the next week. However, information regarding the number of drones could not be found. Not only this, neither the Defense Ministry nor the Foreign Ministry of Maldives has made any such confirmation at present. This information has come to light at a time when China has signed a defense cooperation agreement with Maldives a few days ago to provide free military assistance to boost bilateral relations with Maldives.
In media reports, quoting sources, it has been said that the drones are currently at Nunu Maafaru International Airport. Muizzu first visited Turkey after taking oath as President in November. The government is working to start operating drones within the next week.

But the Defense Ministry official refused to give a direct answer and said that work is going on to strengthen the capabilities. Citing social media posts, the news portal claimed that TB2 drones and the equipment required for the drones were given to Maldives from Turkish company Baykar.
