Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking the central government to immediately release the state’s dues for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA) and PM Awas Yojana. Mamta Banerjee has said that her government is unable to pay even wages for almost four months due to non-availability of funds.
He said, “In West Bengal, the payment of wages is pending for more than four months because the Government of India is not releasing an amount of about Rs 6500 crore to the state. Out of this, 3000 crore is to be received for wages, whereas The remaining Rs 3500 crore is to be received under non-wage head.
He also emphasized that West Bengal has been at the top position in terms of implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana since 2016-17 and more than 32 lakh houses have been constructed so far.
According to the Chief Minister, despite this performance, fresh allocation of funds to West Bengal is pending with the Union Ministry of Rural Development and hence, a long list of beneficiaries in the state is awaiting approval.
Banerjee further said, “Considering the importance of the projects and the hardships being faced by the common people, I request you to take your immediate intervention and direct the concerned ministries to release the amount without delay.”
Even on Thursday morning, while addressing the Annual General Meeting of the West Bengal Civil Service (Executive) Officers’ Association at Kolkata’s newly-renovated iconic Town Hall, Banerjee attacked the central government for not releasing funds to the state government under MGNREGA. Was.
He had then said, “Due to these arrears, often the payment of wages under MGNREGA gets stuck or delayed. Anyway, people are suffering because of the steep rise in the prices of essential commodities. People are not getting money for work. life becomes even more miserable.”
However, senior BJP leader Rahul Sinha claimed that the chief minister was not giving the correct figures. He also alleged that the state government often spends the funds allocated for one item on other items, resulting in shortfall of funds under the allocated amount.
