Kolkata. With Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) winning the Punjab elections overwhelmingly, making its presence felt in Goa and establishing itself as a strong opposition to the BJP in national politics, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee National ambitions have suffered. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has had a dismal performance in the coastal state of Goa. TMC leaders said Mamata Banerjee wants to bring together like-minded parties to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party’s high-profile campaigns in the Goa assembly elections miserably failed to make an impact.
After the results, the Chief Minister said that Trinamool Congress has entered Goa just three months back and efforts are being made to reach the name of Trinamool to the people of the state. The party will work hard in future as the ground work has just started in Goa and the name of the party is now known in every household.
Trinamool Congress state spokesperson Kunal Ghosh informed that the party has started its venture in Goa only a few months back. He said that we got 24 per cent votes in Tripura municipal elections, whereas in Goa it was an attempt to highlight our election symbol in the last three months.
On Friday, Mamata called for an opposition alliance without the Congress. Addressing a press conference in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, he said that if we depend on Congress, then nothing will work. They are losing their potential. All regional parties will now have to come together and work.
Speaking about Congress, West Bengal minister and senior TMC leader Firhad Hakim told reporters on Thursday that Congress is a very old party but it has failed to make an impact, it should merge with TMC.
After AAP’s massive victory in Punjab, its convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced his national ambitions at a victory rally in Delhi. Kejriwal said on Thursday that Inquilab (revolution) first came to Delhi and then took place in Punjab. This revolution will spread all over the country.
Aam Aadmi Party’s landslide victory for the second time in Punjab has fueled the hopes of party leaders to emerge as a national alternative to the ruling BJP and replace the Congress as the major opposition party. AAP leaders have said that the people of Punjab have given chance to the ‘Kejriwal model of governance’ and the Delhi Chief Minister will be the ‘main challenger of the BJP’ in future.
AAP won the Punjab elections by securing a three-fourth majority in the 117-member assembly. The party had finished second behind the Congress in the 2017 elections in the state.
