The Congress said it would file a petition in the Supreme Court against the Election Commission stating that payments to banned groups in Manipur were not a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said he was shocked by the Election Commission’s order that payments to terrorist groups banned by the Manipur government and the Center were not in violation of the election code of conduct and alleged that it had killed the polls.
The former Union Minister took to Twitter and said that surprisingly, the Election Commission has not considered the huge payments made by the Manipur government to banned terrorist groups on 1.1.22 and 1.3.22 as a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. They did this and I am filing a petition in the Supreme Court. The payment was made during the election period after a long gap. It has killed the election in 11 seats.

Shrinet said that the issue somewhere violates the promise of a fair and free election. He said that money was first given to these groups on February 1, which was around Rs 15.72 crore and then on March 1, Rs 92 lakh was given.
