The two-Test series between India and Sri Lanka is starting from Friday (March 4). Just a day before the match, India’s new Test captain Rohit Sharma said that the roads are not closed for Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. They are involved in the future plans of the team. The hitman also said that it is not easy for any batsman to fill his position.
Rahane and Pujara have been dropped from the Indian team for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Rohit said that both Rahane and Pujara have played an important role in taking the Test team to the top. Rohit said, “It is difficult to fill the place of Rahane and Pujara. Nothing will be easy for the player who comes in place of these two. You cannot describe in words what Pujara and Rahane have done for this team. Can.”
The new captain of India further said, “With all these years of hard work, both have played around 80-90 matches. Also won overseas land. Took India to the top. These players have played a big role in difficult times. No, these guys won’t be picked in future. They are in our future plans. As the selectors also said it’s only for the current series. After the series, their name will be reconsidered.”
When asked about his favorite opening partner in KL Rahul’s absence, Rohit said, “I am a captain and I would like everyone in the team. We will see and analyze everything about this and then we will decide. Mayank , Shubman, Shreyas and Vihari are all brilliant and they are the future of Indian cricket. These players need to be given more chances.”
