More than 15 lakh acres of land fell victim to fire, more than 5 thousand workers are engaged in extinguishing the fire
San Francisco, July 27 (IANS)| A massive wildfire in the US, which has so far scorched 197,487 acres of wood in two counties in California, threatens more than 10,000 homes, even with 22 percent prevention. The Dixie Fire, which is currently the largest fire in California, is on the rise after merging with the smaller Fly Fire, Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday.
It ravaged the far northern California community of Indian Falls on Sunday, destroying at least 16 homes and other buildings there. The 15th largest wildfire in California history, the second fire in the state this year, achieved ‘megafire’ status on July 22, when it covered more than 100,000 acres. Since then it has almost doubled in five days.
The Beckworth Complex fire in Plumas National Forest received the designation earlier this month and remained on about 105,000 acres with 98 percent on Monday. Local media said more than 5,400 personnel from across California are dousing the fire round the clock, adding that more reinforcements had come from Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and even Florida to join the operation. There are currently more than 85 major wildfires raging across the country, most of them in western states. According to the National Interagency Fire Center, the fire has scorched about 1,511,162 acres of land as of Monday.
