Mumbai. Mumbai Indians team is in the news before the start of Indian Premier League 2024. The team has to enter this season with the new captain Hardik Pandya and the news of injuries to the players has increased the concern of the team. Team head coach Mark Boucher said on Monday that he is waiting for an ‘update’ from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the fitness status of the team’s star batsman Suryakumar Yadav.
Suryakumar, the world number one batsman in T20, is currently recovering from hernia operation and he may remain out of the initial matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He last played a match for India in December last year. While captaining Team India on the tour of South Africa, he led the team to a 1-1 draw in the T20 series.
Boucher said, “We are waiting for an update from BCCI regarding the fitness of Suryakumar. We have always struggled with fitness issues but we have a world-class medical team. We may lose one or two players due to fitness issues but we have to move forward because it is part of the game.
Boucher also said that keeping in mind the T20 World Cup to be held this year, he has no plans to give rest to the players. He said, “Being the coach of Mumbai Indians, I will adopt a slightly biased attitude. I want all our best players to play in all the matches.
Indian Premier League 2024 is going to start from March 22. The first match is to be played between the current champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The first match of Mumbai Indians team is to be with Gujarat Titans. On March 24, both the teams will play in Ahmedabad.
