New Delhi. Delhi is the capital of the country. In this sense, it is a very big city and being a big city, the population is also a little more than 20 million. Now accidents happen every day in such a large population, but no year passes in Delhi when there are no minor incidents of fire. Talking about the last 25 years, including the incident of fire in Mundka area on Friday, so far 6 major fires have happened in the capital of the country. About 200 people have lost their lives in these fires. Every time there is an investigation after a fire and in most cases it is found that negligence is the biggest reason for such incidents.
Before the Mundka incident, the last major fire incident in Delhi took place on 8 December 2019. On that date, a massive fire broke out in a four-storey factory on Rani Jhansi Road in the middle of the city early in the morning. At that time all the artisans were sleeping. 43 employees were killed in this horrific fire. Earlier in 2019 itself, a fire broke out at Hotel Arpit in Karolbagh area on the intervening night of February 11 and 12. In this 17 people lost their lives. In the year 2018 also there was a major fire incident in Delhi. The incident took place in January 2018, when a fire broke out at an illegal firecracker factory in Bawana area where 17 people lost their lives.
Earlier on November 20, 2011, a fire broke out in Nandnagri, Delhi during an event. In this horrific fire, 14 people lost their lives. About 30 people were scorched here. However, still the worst fire incident in Delhi is known as Uphaar Cinema fire. There was a massive fire in Uphaar Cinema on 13 June 1997. At that time the show of the film ‘Border’ was going on and the cinema hall was packed. 59 people lost their lives in this accident.
