An office-bearer of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has said that Indian Muslims are passing through more difficult times than in 1857 and 1947 regarding their religious traditions. AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani has appealed to Muslims, especially women, not to fall prey to the “propaganda” being spread against the Muslim Personal Law Board.
He said that extremist forces are misleading and instigating Muslim youths to take them out on the streets. Citing the example of hijab issue in Karnataka, he said it is a big test for Muslims in the state. Rahmani said, “All India Muslim Personal Law Board is monitoring the matter and is taking legal route.” Don’t ignore any issue.
Rahmani said that some people are trying to create misunderstanding about the board. He said, “I appeal to Muslims, especially Muslim sisters, not to be influenced by such propaganda and not to allow attempts to create resentment.” In a video message, Rahmani said, “Crisis on religious traditions”. According to the Indian Muslims are going through a worse phase than in 1857 and 1947. Shariat-e-Islami is being attacked from many sides and Muslims are being targeted.
Significantly, in 1857, the first struggle for independence from British rule took place, while the country got independence in 1947. In Karnataka, girls were recently barred from wearing the hijab to attend school. The Karnataka High Court had also refused to grant relief. The Muslim Personal Law Board had filed a petition in the Supreme Court last month.
