New Delhi. Naima Khatoon has been appointed the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and will be the first woman to hold the post in 100 years. Khatoon has been appointed Vice Chancellor after getting approval from President Draupadi Murmu. The President is also the Visitor of the University. In view of the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, approval was sought from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
A source said, ‘Women’s College Principal Naima Khatoon has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of AMU for a period of five years. The ECI has said that it has no objection from the Model Code of Conduct point of view to the proposal related to the appointment of AMU Vice-Chancellor, provided no political benefit is taken from it.
PhD degree in Psychology from AMU
Khatoon, who obtained her PhD in Psychology from AMU, was appointed a lecturer in the same department in 1988. In 2006 he was promoted as professor. After this, she was appointed Principal of Women’s College in 2014. The Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College, established in the year 1875, was renamed Aligarh Muslim University in 1920. In the year 1920, Begum Sultan Jahan was appointed the Vice Chancellor of AMU. After this, Khatoon is the first woman to be appointed Vice Chancellor in a period of 104 years.
