The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has asked the West Bengal Police to file an action taken report within three days regarding the violence in Birbhum area of the state. The commission has also asked the West Bengal Police to ensure the safety of women and children living in the violence-hit area.
The commission has written a letter to Nagendra Nath Tripathi, Superintendent of Police, Birbhum, West Bengal. A copy of the letter is with -AnyTV News.
According to the letter, the NCPCR received a complaint following which they took cognizance of the matter under Section 13(1) of the CPCR Act.
The NCPCR letter states that “The Commission has received a complaint, which has brought to the notice of the Commission that during this period the socio-political violence, which started at the behest of the political party at the helm of power in West Bengal, affected women and children the most. According to the complainant, TMC extremists torched several houses in Rampurhat area of Birbhum district of West Bengal and as a result around 10 women and children were burnt alive.
The commission has asked the police to investigate the matter and ensure the safety of these children.
He further said that the action taken report on the matter should be shared with the Commission within 3 days.
