New Delhi. India on Tuesday successfully tested a new version of its medium-range ballistic missile. The Defense Ministry said in a statement that the successful test of the new version of the medium-range ballistic missile was conducted on Tuesday under the auspices of the Strategic Force Command.
The ministry said the user launch has validated the operational capability of the command and validated new technologies. Earlier on April 18, DRDO had successfully flight tested the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM).
The flight of the missile was monitored from the Sukhoi-30-MK-I aircraft of the Indian Air Force. The missile was equipped with advanced avionics and software to ensure better and reliable performance.
The Defense Ministry said that the test has proved the operational capability of the missile with new technologies. The ministry said, “On April 23, a new version of the medium-range ballistic missile was successfully tested under the Strategic Forces Command.”
“The test has proven the command’s operational capability and validated new technologies,” it said in a brief statement. It has been learned that this missile does not belong to the ‘Agni’ category weapon systems.
The ITCM followed the desired path using way point navigation and performed very low altitude sea-skimming flight. The successful flight test had also established the reliable performance of the indigenous propulsion system developed by the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bengaluru.
