Chennai. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two persons – A S Bava Bharuddin (42) of Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district and J Kumbakonam of Thanjavur district. Chargesheet has been filed against Jiyavuddin Bakawi (41) for favoring ISIS. Police said that Madurai’s Thidir Nagar police station had registered a case against Mohammad Iqbal for sharing social media posts in favor of ISIS and he allegedly incited youth against Indian democracy and government.
The NIA later took over the case from Madurai Police in April 2021 and further investigation found that Mohammad Iqbal was a member of an Islamic organization Hizb-ut-Tahrir which was an affiliated unit of ISIS.
According to agency sources, the NIA found that he was involved in radicalizing youth to establish an Islamic state and to implement a draft constitution written by a radical Islamic preacher, Taki-al-Din-al-Nabani. was involved in.
Upon further investigation, the investigative agency found that Bawa and Bakawi were collaborating with Mohammad Iqbal and recruiting youth across the state to establish Islamic State under ISIS. It was also found that both were involved in radicalizing and motivating the youth.
The chargesheet also states that both Bawa and Bakawi had used several social media sites to set up new cells in the state to set up ISIS.
