In Uttarakhand, none of the BJP chief ministers has completed the five-year term so far. In 20 years of the formation of Uttarakhand, only Congress Chief Minister ND Tiwari has been able to complete his five-year term. Despite the defeat from Khatima assembly seat, the BJP high command has once again expressed confidence in Pushkar Singh Dhami.
Now it will be interesting to see whether CM Pushkar Singh Dhami will be able to make a record of five years of Chief Minister tenure. Dhami was being told out of the CM race after the defeat of Congress candidate Bhuvan Chandra Kapri in the 2022 assembly elections. But, the central leadership of BJP has agreed in the name of CM Dhami only.
In the 2022 assembly elections, the BJP had got 47 seats, while the Congress had to be satisfied with only 19 seats. Independents and BSP candidates have won two seats each in Uttarakhand, which has 70 assembly seats.
BJP broke myth in Uttarakhand
In the history of 20 years of Uttarakhand, no political party was able to form the government again. After BJP in 2000, Congress formed the government in Uttarakhand in 2002. BJP made a comeback in 2007 and once again formed the government and in 2012 the Congress returned. In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP once again formed the government in Uttarakhand. In the 2022 assembly elections, the public once again reposed faith in the BJP.
