New Delhi. The Supreme Court has rejected the petitions filed for review of its order of December 11, 2023 unanimously upholding the Central Government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Justice (CJI) D.Y. A five-judge bench headed by Chandrachud considered the review petitions and rejected the request to list them in open court.
The bench also included Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice BR Gavai, Justice Surya Kant and Justice AS Bopanna. It said in its order dated May 1 that after considering the review petitions, it has come to the conclusion that there is no ground for review under Rule 1 Order 47 of the Supreme Court Rules 2013, hence the review petitions are dismissed. “
On December 11 last year, the apex court had upheld the Centre’s 2019 decision. Also, the court had ordered to hold assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by the end of September this year and to restore its statehood ‘as soon as possible’.
