Washington: Now you will be able to travel not only within the country and abroad, but also to space. America has started space tourism for the first time in the world. Entrepreneur and pilot Gopi Thotakura will be the first Indian to travel to space. He will travel to space as a tourist on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin NS-25 mission. He will be one of six astronauts going on this mission. With this, he will be the first Indian space tourist and the second Indian to go to space after Indian Army Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma in 1984.
The aerospace company said that the date of going into space has not been announced yet. This will be the seventh flight to take humans into space for the ‘New Shepard’ program and the 25th in its history. So far, 31 humans have been flown above the Kármán Line under this program, which is the conventional line proposed between the Earth’s atmosphere and space. ‘New Shepard’ is a fully reusable sub-orbital launch vehicle developed by Blue Origin for space tourism.
Gopi is also a pilot along with being an entrepreneur.
According to Blue Origin, “Gopi is a pilot and aviator who learned to fly before he could drive.” He is the director of Preserve Life, a global center for holistic wellness and behavioral health located near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Co-founder of Corp. Apart from flying aircraft commercially, he has also flown aerobatic aircraft and seaplanes as well as hot air balloons. Other space tourists include Mason Engel, Sliven Chiron, Kenneth L. Hayes, Carroll Shaler and former Air Force Captain Ed Dwight. (Language)
