Caller tune playing by default will be discontinued soon to spread awareness on COVID-19. In a report quoting official sources, it has been said that now the cases of corona are coming very less, so the government is going to close it.
“There will be no caller tune on COVID-19 now. It is going to be closed soon,” an official told news agency ANI on condition of anonymity.
A day earlier, PTI quoted “official sources” as thinking of discontinuing COVID-19 pre-call announcements from phones after nearly two years of raising awareness about the disease. However, till now an official announcement has not been made by the Government of India regarding this.
Since March 2020, when the corona virus was declared as a pandemic, the government has directed all telecom operators to ensure its declaration. The government had said that this announcement related to COVID awareness should be played as a caller tune, when a phone user is calling someone.
Initially, the voice of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was heard. The caller tune was aimed at promoting measures such as wearing face masks, using hand sanitisers and maintaining social distancing to reduce the rate of virus infection.
