Team India is ranked second after Australia
Tokyo, July 27 (IANS) | The Indian men’s hockey team defeated Spain 3-0 in their third Pool A match at the Oi Hockey Stadium here on Tuesday. For India, Rupinder Pal Singh (15th and 51st) scored two goals while Simranjit Singh (14th) scored one goal. Rupinder scored one goal from a penalty corner and another on penalty stroke while Simranjeet scored a field goal.
India got four penalty corners in this match, out of which they could only score in one. Spain, on the other hand, wasted seven penalty corners. This is India’s second win in three matches. India had defeated New Zealand 3-2 in their first match but in the second match they were beaten 7-1 by Australia. With this, India has reached the second position in this pool with six points. Australia are at the top of the pool with nine points from three matches. This is Spain’s second defeat in three matches. India now have to play Argentina and hosts Japan.
