Genomic analysis on the sample also found that the sub-variant ba.1.1 was detected in 43 percent of the samples, while the ba.1 sub-variant was detected in 37.3 percent of the samples.
The health department said Omicron cases were spread in the state. Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) at the State Public Health Laboratory showed that 93 per cent of the 496 variants sequenced in the state are Omicron variants.
According to the study, 6.6 per cent of the sequenced samples in the state are of delta variants.
Tamil Nadu Health Secretary, J. Radhakrishnan told -AnyTV News, “The whole genome sequencing (WGS) data is not meant to create panic among people. However, it is to make people aware about the BA.2 variant.”
He also said that there is not much clinical difference between the two variants in Tamil Nadu and people need to be cautious as many countries have registered an increase in cases in the last week.
