Operation Ganga: Modi government has started ‘Operation Ganga’ for the safe return of Indians trapped in Ukraine. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called a big meeting on Monday morning amid the escalating tension between Russia and Ukraine. Officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation as well as the Ministry of External Affairs attended the meeting. It was decided in the meeting that Operation Ganga would be expedited. It has been decided that four ministers of the Modi government will be sent as special envoys to the neighboring countries of Ukraine. These ministers are – Hardeep Singh Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju and General (Retd.) VK Singh. Due to the complete closure of Ukraine’s air border, the government is bringing its citizens to the neighboring country of Ukraine and from there air is being brought to India. A large number of students have been brought so far, but thousands of Indians are still stranded.

Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, NCP chief Sharad Pawar spoke to External Affairs Minister Jaishankar over phone and discussed the evacuation of Indian students stranded in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Evacuation via Belgorod (Russia) route was also discussed. The issue of assistance to students stranded on the Romania-Poland border has also been discussed. Students of Maharashtra origin are also to be brought to India.

Video: The fifth #OperationGanga flight that took off from Bucharest (Romania) landed in Delhi this morning. There were 249 Indian nationals on board the flight. Everyone expressed happiness after returning to their country and thanked the government. There are also many of these students who were studying there. Their families are also happy, but are worried about their studies, because the situation in Ukraine is deteriorating.
